Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hit the theaters on November 11th, 2022, attracting Marvel and sci-fi fans alike. This new movie is a sequel to the first Black Panther which was released 4 years ago in 2018. Since the release of the first movie, the character “Black Panther”, or T’Challa, has appeared in a plethora of other Marvel movies. Since the first movie’s release, the beloved actor who portrays this African superhero, Chadwick Boseman, has passed away. In light of this, the second movie depicts Wakanda, Black Panthers home setting, in the wake of the loss of their finest protector. As the world puts pressure on Wakanda, they must find a way to cope with their loss by protecting their land, resources, and people without The Black Panther.
This movie takes the viewer through a heartfelt journey that shows the true colors of Wakandans and their ability to overcome obstacles. While the runtime totals to 161 mins, not a minute is wasted as each scene contributes to the story in its own unique way. The cast, in my opinion, was spectacularly chosen for the new characters that appear in this film. Tenoch Huerta plays one of the most important new characters. His acting captures the audience, making it confusing to know what Namor, the character he plays, is truly thinking. The movie is among the most diverse I’ve ever seen and probably one of the most diverse Marvel movies out there right now. The culmination of cultures and languages in this movie can definitely be appreciated by the viewer.
Another outstanding feature in this movie is the soundtrack. The songs chosen to play throughout contribute beautifully to the scenes they are played in. Ludwig Goransson composed this film’s score, as well as the score for the first Black Panther movie. Another soundtrack in the movie, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever — Music From and Inspired By’, includes songs from a wide range of artists, some even in other languages. ‘Lift Me Up’ by Rihanna is one of the most cherished songs from the album, it is a tribute from her to the late Chadwick Boseman.
The most important feature of the movie, in my opinion, is the cinematography. Throughout the whole duration of the movie, the use of different camera angles enhances the overall theme of each of the scenes. The landscapes in the movie are insane as well. They look hyper-realistic and very modern, even the depiction of the United States includes high-tech devices and themes. The CGI in this movie is among the best I have seen from the new wave of Marvel movies. I was very impressed with the overall visual experience of the movie, even the costume choices.
I highly recommend Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to be the next movie you go to see in theaters. Even with little or no Marvel expertise you can still enjoy this well thought out and beautiful action/adventure movie. Don’t hesitate to go see it while it’s still in theaters.
