On Friday, September 6, the school spirit was off the charts. During the school day, students and staff celebrated Fun Friday by wearing tropical hats and shirts to school. Mr. Jozokas’s plan to climb onto the library roof and attain a picture of the tropical swarm of students gathered in the courtyard was flawlessly successful. Along with BHS tropical unity, Friday marked Bedford football’s first game of the season.
Students packed the stands wearing all black for the first football game of the season: Bedford vs Windham. They raised large signs and posters giving support to friends and classmates out on their home field. Windham had just recently been made eligible to compete in New Hampshire Division I football this year. Despite their previous successes within Division II, Bedford claimed sweet victory, defeating Windham 41-7. Even without some of Bedford’s best players from last year, all who have graduated, the bulldogs displayed great potential for this season’s lineup.
Football was not the only sport that walked away with a big win this week. Bedford sports all around dominated their competitors, foreshadowing bright seasons for all Bedford fall sports. Here is the rundown on all the games that took place last week…
Girls Soccer: The girls varsity soccer team had a busy schedule with three games last week, but that did not hold these girls back. The girls had a tough loss against Merrimack on Friday, yet defeated both Portsmouth and Winnacunnet earlier in the week, scoring five goals in both games. The team will be facing Spaulding and Nashua North this upcoming week on Monday and Wednesday.
Boys Soccer: The D1 champs had a strong and promising start to their season this year, winning their first two games last week. The team’s very first game was on Winnacunnet turf. The Bedford boys battled the warriors and went home with a 3-1 victory. The team then had their home opening game against Merrimack and walked away with a 3-0 win.
Field Hockey: The girls varsity field hockey team showed great potential in their pre-season, going undefeated at the Memorial Jamboree. Last week, at their very first game, the girls did not disappoint: on Wednesday the girls finished in a 3-3 tie in overtime versus Central High School. The girls home opener will be this Friday versus Memorial.
Cross Country: Last week the boys and girls cross country team had their first two meets of the season. The girls team placed first in both meets, and Bedford’s own Carly Rinko even took the first place spot at the Cofrin Classic meet. The boys team took 4th and 3rd while competing last week. The cross country team competes Saturday in the Nashua North Invitational.
