Computer Science Education Week

Last week was Bedford High School’s first official computer science week!  December 3-9 is Computer Science Education Week —an annual event to get students excited about Computer Science. In the past, many students may have participated in the Hour of Code, another event often held in honor of Computer Science Education Week. However, this year several computer teachers have decided to hold several other tech related events. You may have noticed the machines and gadgets set up in the commons, these activities are meant to encourage student involvement and interest in computer science. With activities and competitions that encourage students to code, Computer Science Education week has had an impact in showcasing students how exciting and interesting computer science can be! On top of activities available to all students during third block, computer science students specifically will have the opportunity to meet with professionals about what it’s like to work in the field of computer science on Friday during block 3. These events are meant to encourage students to learn more about computer science, and potential career options.

My name is Sarah Avampato, I am a Bedford High School sophomore and editor for the science and technology section. In my free time I enjoy writing and working with technology and builds. I am an avid hiker and enjoy spending time outside with my dog. As science and technology editor my goal is to expose more students to how science and technology affects our every day lives and keep students aware of new changes in these fields.
