Thirteen Lives Review

In 2018, after a soccer session, twelve Thai boys and their coach visited the Tham Luang Cave in order to hold an initiation ceremony. Unfortunately, after a heavy downpour, they found themselves trapped inside the flooding cave. For over two weeks, everyone around the world switched on their televisions to keep an eye on what would soon be known as the Tham Luang Cave Rescue.

Four years later, in 2022, the film Thirteen Lives was released based on this real-life rescue. Initially, I was not as excited to watch it, seeing as I had already known the outcome of the rescue. However, my thoughts changed. One weekend, it was free to watch on demand, so I decided, “Why not watch it?” My feelings that there would be an absence of suspense and adrenaline were quickly proved wrong. Feelings of adrenaline and tension were still present despite knowing the outcome of the movie, and I was fully immersed in the film. I even had to plead with my mother to move from blocking my view of the screen. That being said, I highly recommend anyone to watch it, and it’ll be just as investing even if you were one of those families tracking the rescue almost five years prior.
