There is no doubt that BHS’s Varsity Soccer players are extremely talented. Both boys teams and girl team had an incredible season. The boys and girls had almost perfect records going into the playoffs and performed well throughout the entire fall season. However, both the boys and the girls fell short of winning the championship during the playoffs.
The BHS Girls Soccer team was very strongly bonded going into the 2019 season. The girls went into playoffs with an extremely impressive record of 13-3. Their biggest game of the season was the quarter finals game against Concord. After having a scoreless game, the bulldogs fell one penalty kick short of a victory. They loss to Concord 4-5 in penalty kicks at the quarter-finals. This is a very familiar story. The BHS Girls Soccer team has lost in penalty kicks during the playoffs 3 years in a row now. Despite the defeat, the girls still made sure to keep the positive attitude up and end their season with team bonding. The girls are hoping to come back better than ever next year, break the penalty kick curse, and take that championship.
The BHS Boys Soccer team played very confident throughout the entire season. They were set to defend their state championship title from the year before. They completely dominated the regular season, going into the playoffs with a 15-0-1 record. They had lost no games the entire season. They breezed through the first couple rounds of playoffs, but then played Windham in the semi-finals, the one team they had tied in the regular season. The dawgs, not letting anything get in their way, defeated Windham with an easy 4-1 victory, leading them right to the finals against Hanover. Through a scoreless game, they were lead to penalty kicks. Just like the girls, they fell short during penalty kicks and lost in the finals, ending as the Division 1 Boys Soccer runner-ups. Forgetting about the loss, the boys prepare to come back with more fire next year, and earn their title back. The boys are determined to train hard during the off season to secure the championship next year.
There are lots of seniors graduating this year from both the girls and boys soccer teams. 10 of the girls and 12 of the boys are seniors. Hopefully, there will be upcoming underclassmen ready to step up their game to fill the spots of the graduates in order to possibly secure another state title in the future. The Bedford Bulldogs are getting hungry for another championship win.
