For those of you who can’t wait for prom, here is a little review of every prom theme so far, and why this year’s prom is going to be awesome!
This year’s official prom theme is the Roaring Twenties, which has the feel and look of the extravagant parties described in books like The Great Gatsby. It would sport primarily gold, glitzy, and flashy colors, giving a very luxurious, yet exciting, feel to venue. It is also a very good choice because the Roaring Twenties is symbolic of the graduating class of 2020, and would ensure that the seniors finish the year with a bang. Below are some references to what a typical Roaring Twenties-themed prom would look like.
However, other prom themes that were previously up for grabs include Arabian Nights, Hollywood, and Fairy Tale/Ball.
Arabian Nights would have consisted of colorful, bright colors that fill up the space. It would definitely have brought a very festive feel to the venue, making prom a hard night to forget. However, it would sacrifice the luxurious feel of the Roaring Twenties that seems to be popular with students this year. An Arabian Nights-themed prom would have looked something like this:
As for the Hollywood prom theme, it definitely was one of the more traditional and widely used prom themes out of the others. Nonetheless, it would have had a more glamorous feel to it, but without the extra twist of the Roaring Twenties for the seniors graduating in 2020.
Finally, the Fairy Tale/Ball prom theme would have most likely consisted of pastel colors, flowers, and fairy lights. It would have brought a dreamy quality to the venue.

However, with the Roaring Twenties as this year’s chosen theme, prom is guaranteed to be memorable. According to several seniors at Bedford High School, they are looking forward to this year’s prom. Cecilia Wong says, “Although I’m not going to dress specifically for this occasion—I’m going to wear a normal prom dress—I do appreciate the thought that will go into the decorations and I’m excited to see how the place is going to be decorated to fit this theme…I think [this theme] is more creative than something like ‘Midnight in Paris’” (Midnight in Paris was 2019’s prom theme).

Roman Snegach, another senior, expresses a similar sentiment: “The 20’s were a period of time known for dressing nice, going out and partying hard.” “It’s kinda metaphoric,” adds Roman, “that right after the Roaring 20’s prom we’re all facing the Great Depression of senior summer.” Thanks for the insightful analysis, Roman!
On that positive note, it seems as if students are ready for a prom that’s classy, exciting, and glamorous this year!
